News, December 202During the first lockdown I couldn't get into my studio from the end of March until mid-June, so had to figure out some stuff I could do at home. Our planned trip to Northumberland in June had to be cancelled, so thought I'd do some feel-good paintings to, hopefully, cheer things up a bit. Many people, after seeing examples of the photos I have taken over the years, have been asking, “why haven’t you done any paintings of birds?” So, I decided to act, and here they are! They seem to have been well-received as the first three people to see them bought six paintings! The sold ones are clearly marked as SOLD following each picture’s title. The paintings are all small as I have only a very small space to work in at home. The largest ones measure just 24cm x 18cm. Through the most recent lockdown which just ended today I have been working on a series of a further six bird paintings which I will post as soon as they are completed. I’ve also been working on further urban landscape/building paintings which I will post at a later date. I will be submitting some for exhibitions and competitions early next year, all being well, so I prefer to keep them under wraps until I get a chance to exhibit them.
2020 has been a year like no other I can remember. Like most people I know, I will be happy to see the back of it, and feel confident that next year should be much better. I hope you all enjoy Christmas and send my best wishes for a Happy & Healthy New Year. Take care.
I am delighted to have had the following two paintings selected for this year's New Light Prize Exhibition which opens at the Scarborough Art Gallery on 19th September. The biennial exhibition showcases the best artwork from the North of England, and this is the third successive time I have been featured. The exhibition will be in Scarborough until January 2021 and will then move to the Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery in Carlisle (January – May 2021), The Biscuit Factory in Newcastle (May-August 2021) and The Bankside Gallery in London (November 2021).

Next week I will be delivering my entry for this year's John Moores Painting Prize Exhibition to the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. I last featured in this show in 2014, so I'm really hopeful that I might make the cut again this year. I should get the verdict of the judging panel sometime in October. Fingers crossed!
