News, January 2020.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a great Christmas break and that you're all looking forward to the year ahead.

New portrait commission.

I recently completed and delivered this portrait commission just a few weeks ago. Two children, "Sister and brother". This was great fun to do as I think I have painted only two other children in the twelve years since I gave up working as a teacher. Many thanks to the children and their parents for their co-operation in making it so much fun. The portrait is full of significant stuff, so I hope you enjoy fathoming it out.

The Ferens Open, 2020.

Towards the end of January I will be delivering these two paintings to the Ferens Art Gallery, Hull, following their selection for their Open Exhibition which will be open from 15th February - 26th April 2020. The painting, "The old mill by the canal, Autumn", is a version of the watercolour I had selected for the last Sunday Times Watercolour Competition which ended its run at the Guildford House Gallery on 2nd January 2020.

The Ferens is a fabulous gallery in the centre of Hull and is home to a magnificent collection of paintings and sculptures, including works by European Old Masters, portraiture, marine painting and contemporary British art. For opening times and directions please visit http://www.hcandl.co.uk

The New Light Collection.

I recently donated my painting, "Too many tragedies, too many crimes", to the New Light Collection. The collection enables public bodies and charities, including schools and hospitals, to borrow the best in contemporary Northern art free of charge, giving everyone the chance to experience and enjoy the region's rich artistic talent at first hand.

All best wishes to my friends and fellow artists for a happy, healthy and rewarding New Year. It has to be better than last year..........surely!
